The five body shapes

Body shape typing groups silhouettes into five families, each with cuts that tend to flatter it - no shape ranks above another.

Hourglass

Shoulders and hips close in width, with a clearly narrower waist between them.

Pear

Hips visibly wider than the shoulders, with a defined waist.

Apple

The midsection is the fullest area, without a clearly defined waist.

Rectangle

Shoulders, waist and hips are all similar in width, with little waist definition.

Inverted Triangle

Shoulders visibly wider than the hips.

What the analysis reads

Shoulder-to-hip

Whether your shoulder line reads narrower, balanced, or wider than your hip line - the main axis that separates the five shapes.

Waist definition

How much your waist narrows relative to your shoulders and hips - a defined waist is the difference between Hourglass and Rectangle, or Pear and Apple.

FAQ

Is the body shape calculator actually free?

Yes. Your body shape, its one-line headline, and your apparent shoulder-to-hip and waist proportions are free with no account or payment. The styling playbook - what to emphasize, what to balance, your best tops/bottoms/dresses, and what to avoid - is a one-time launch-offer unlock shown at checkout. No subscription.

What is body shape typing?

It's a well-known styling framework that groups silhouettes into five shapes - Hourglass, Pear, Apple, Rectangle and Inverted Triangle - based on how your shoulders, waist and hips compare. Each shape has cuts and silhouettes that tend to flatter it. It's a styling guide, not a science or a health measure, and this tool treats it that way - every shape is simply a different proportion, never a ranking.

How does it work from one photo?

An AI vision model reads your visible silhouette - shoulder line, waist, and hip line, as shown through your clothing - and classifies it into the shape it best matches. You get your shape and basic proportions in seconds, with no signup.

What photo gives the best result?

A clear, full-length, front-facing photo in fitted (not baggy) clothing, standing straight with even lighting. Loose clothing, a seated pose, or a cropped photo all hide the silhouette, so the tool lowers its confidence and tells you when a photo was hard to read.

Does this measure my weight or body size?

No. Body shape is about proportion - how your shoulders, waist and hips compare to each other - not size or weight, and the tool never estimates either. Two people of very different sizes can have the exact same shape.

Is my photo kept private?

Yes. Your photo is used in memory to generate your result and then discarded - it's never stored, sold, or used to train models. No signup is needed for the free analysis or the paid report.
