Match your PD to the right frame shape

Your Pupillary Distance tells you the millimeter size of your frames. Your face shape and eye geometry determine which frame silhouette actually flatters your features.

FAQ

How does the online Pupillary Distance (PD) tool measure in millimeters without a ruler?

MediaPipe's 478-point FaceLandmarker detects both your pupil centers (landmarks 468 and 473) and the horizontal visible iris diameter (HVID, landmarks 469-471 and 474-476). Because adult human horizontal corneal/iris diameter is anatomically consistent around 11.7 mm (11.5-11.9 mm across populations), the ratio of your interpupillary pixel distance to your iris pixel diameter provides an accurate millimeter estimate. You can also fine-tune the iris reference slider between 11.3 mm and 12.2 mm if you know your eyes run slightly smaller or larger than average.

What is the average adult Pupillary Distance (PD)?

Most adult pupillary distances fall between 54 mm and 74 mm, with the overall adult average sitting around 62-64 mm (roughly 63-65 mm in adult men and 59-62 mm in adult women).

What is the difference between Far PD, Near PD, and Monocular (Dual) PD?

Far PD (distance PD) is the distance between the centers of your pupils when looking straight ahead at a distant target, used for everyday distance and sunglasses frames. Near PD is typically 3 mm narrower than your Far PD because your eyes converge slightly when reading or looking at a laptop. Dual or Monocular PD splits the measurement into Right (OD) and Left (OS) distances from the center of your nasal bridge - useful for high-index or progressive lenses.
