Review & Pricing
Is Umax App Really Free?
The truth about Umax pricing, the weekly subscription paywall, the referral code bypass, and how to get an instant facial rating without paying.
The Umax pricing model explained
If you found Umax on TikTok or Instagram, you probably saw creators showing their rating scores and advice. However, the business model behind the app catches many users off guard:
Free to download, paid to view
The app download is free, and the camera scan takes your photo. But right when you expect your score, an Apple/Google paywall pops up prompting for weekly billing.
The invite code workaround
Umax allows users to bypass the payment by sharing referral codes with 3 or more friends. This viral growth loop is why referral codes are spammed across comments sections.
Recurring weekly auto-renewal
Unlike standard monthly subscriptions, Umax bills on a 7-day cycle. A user who forgets to cancel within 3 weeks can easily spend $15 to $20.
Why a browser-based rater makes more sense
You don't need a heavy native app taking up storage on your phone just to run computer vision measurements on your facial landmarks.
LooksMeter delivers the complete facial rating directly in Safari, Chrome, or any mobile browser. Your photo is analyzed in real-time on our servers and immediately discarded, with zero recurring charges or hidden billing traps.
Frequently asked
Is Umax completely free to use?
No. While Umax is free to download from the App Store and Google Play, getting your actual facial rating and analysis results requires paying for a weekly recurring subscription (typically $4.99/week or more) or inviting several friends with invite codes to unlock a single scan.
How much does Umax cost after downloading?
Umax typically costs $4.99 per week, which equals approximately $20 per month or over $240 per year if kept active. They may offer introductory trials, but they auto-renew into recurring weekly subscriptions.
Can I use Umax without inviting friends?
Without inviting friends to download the app using your referral code, you cannot bypass the paywall to see your report for free.
Is there a completely free alternative to Umax?
Yes. LooksMeter is a 100% browser-based facial rater that provides your complete PSL score, tier, percentile, and 4-category breakdown (Harmony, Dimorphism, Angularity, Features) entirely free with no app downloads, no invite codes, and no subscription.
