AI face analysis: how 468-landmark geometry and vision scoring work.

First-generation face rating websites forced you to drag four manual lines over a tilted selfie and compared every human face to a single 1.618 Golden Ratio mask. Modern AI face analysis replaces manual dot-dragging with automated 468-landmark 3D mesh detection, roll-corrected angular geometry and multi-axis harmony scoring.

The 4 layers of a calibrated AI facial scan

When you scan a front-facing photo on LooksMeter, the analysis separates fixed bone proportions from high-leverage presentation traits:

1. Roll-corrected 468-landmark anthropometry

Before measuring a single ratio, the scanner establishes your true interpupillary horizontal axis so a 2° head tilt never fakes positive or negative canthal tilt. It then computes Facial Width-to-Height Ratio (fWHR), Midface Ratio, Eye Separation Ratio (ESR) and vertical facial thirds.

2. Six-pillar facial harmony & PSL calibration

Rather than rewarding extreme individual measurements, the scoring engine evaluates how your eyes, brows, midface, lower jaw, skin and hair framing balance each other across both a 1-10 everyday harmony scale and the strict 0.25-8.0 PSL bell curve.

3. 12-season undertone, depth & contrast mapping

By sampling skin undertone (Warm, Cool, Neutral or Olive) against iris and hair luminance contrast, the analysis places you into one of the 12 seasonal colour palettes so your clothing and hair shade neutralize under-eye shadows automatically.

4. Actionable styling geometry & AI Style Preview

Every measurement maps directly to a presentation lever: haircut silhouettes that balance your vertical thirds, glasses frames sized to your bizygomatic width and an AI Style Preview rendered on your own photo.

Frequently asked

How does AI face analysis measure a face from a single photo?

Modern browser-based AI face analysis runs in two layers. First, an on-device 468-landmark 3D mesh maps key craniofacial points (glabella, subnasale, menton, medial/lateral canthi, zygion and gonion) and corrects for head tilt. Second, a calibrated vision rubric evaluates skin homogeneity, feature harmony, dimorphism, angularity and 12-season colour contrast.

Why do different photos of my face get slightly different AI scores?

Camera focal length, head pitch and lighting direction change 2D projected ratios. A 24 mm front selfie camera held at 30 cm enlarges the nose by 20% to 25% and narrows the jaw compared to a 2x portrait lens held 1.5 meters away at eye level in soft daylight.

Can I see a real example of a full AI face analysis report before trying it?

Yes. You can inspect our live Sample Face Report (/tools/face-report/sample) to see the exact 1-10 Face Score, strict PSL breakdown, 6 harmony pillars, 468-landmark geometry overlay, 12-season colour palette, haircut blueprint and AI Style Preview before running your own free scan.
