What a smile rating reads
Five things a camera can judge about a smile: alignment (how straight and even the teeth look), brightness (their apparent shade and any staining), gum line (how much gum shows and how even it is), symmetry (left-right balance and the midline), and harmony (smile width, tooth proportion, and how the lips frame it). It scores appearance only - never the health of your teeth or gums, which only a dentist can judge.
Quick fixes vs the long route
Some of what holds a smile back is quick and cosmetic - practising a relaxed, genuine smile for photos, lip care, and professional whitening for shade can move the needle in weeks. Alignment and the gum line are the honest exception: those are a longer, clinical route through an orthodontist or dentist, and the report says so plainly rather than promising a fast fix.

Is the smile rating actually free?

Is this a dental diagnosis?
No. It rates the cosmetic appearance of a smile in one photo - it cannot diagnose cavities, gum disease, or any condition, and it never recommends treatment or dental work. It describes what's visible; anything that looks like a health issue, or any decision about braces, whitening or surgery, belongs with a dentist or orthodontist, and the tool says so.
What does the smile score measure?
Five cosmetic markers from the photo: alignment (straightness, crowding, gaps), brightness (apparent shade and staining), gum line (how much gum shows and how even it is), symmetry (left-right balance and midline), and harmony (smile width, tooth proportion, and how the lips frame it). It scores appearance, not oral health.
What photo works best?
A straight-on, natural smile in even light, close enough that the teeth and a little of the lips fill the frame, with no heavy filter. A side angle, a closed mouth, or a filtered photo all make the smile harder to read - the confidence score tells you how reliable the read was.
Can I actually improve my smile score?
Some markers move quickly and cosmetically - practising a relaxed, genuine smile, lip care, and professional whitening for shade. Others (alignment, gum line) are a longer, clinical route through an orthodontist or dentist. The report is honest about which is which and never promises a fast fix for the slow ones.
Is my photo kept private?
Scoring never stores your photo - it's used in memory to generate your result and discarded, and it's never sold or shared. The one exception is entirely yours: clicking "Save to my progress" stores that photo privately to your account for progress tracking, and you can delete it anytime.
