FAQ
What is a good Facial Width-to-Height Ratio (fWHR)?
Facial Width-to-Height Ratio (fWHR) divides bizygomatic cheekbone width by upper-face height (mid-brow to upper lip). Most adult faces fall between 1.75x and 2.05x, with looksmaxxing and anthropometry references commonly citing 1.85x-2.00x as a balanced compact frame.
What is the Eye Separation Ratio (ESR) and Midface Ratio?
Eye Separation Ratio (ESR) is interpupillary distance divided by bizygomatic face width - commonly cited between 0.44 and 0.47 (44%-47% of face width). Midface Ratio divides interpupillary distance by the vertical distance from the pupil line to the upper lip, where ~0.95x-1.05x indicates a balanced 1:1 central triangle.
How accurate are 2D photo facial ratio measurements?
Because ratios divide one distance by another in the same plane (and angles are scale-invariant), they do not require a millimeter ruler. However, camera distance (selfie lens distortion under 50 cm) and head pitch (tilting chin up or down) can shift vertical ratios like midface ratio and fWHR by 5-8%. Use a straight-on photo taken at arm's length or further.
